What We Learned This Year
Clearing Up Common Questions from the 2026 Fair
This year marked our transition to a new online registration platform (MySciFair). While the rules of participation
did not change, the registration workflow did.
As with any new system, several common questions emerged. To help everyone moving forward, we want to clarify
the most frequent misunderstandings.
1. Creating a Project ≠ Being Registered
Creating a project in MySciFair does NOT automatically register a student for the SC Region 1 Science Fair.
A project is officially registered only after it has been promoted by the School Coordinator.
2. SRC Approval ≠ Registration
The Scientific Review Committee (SRC) reviews Junior and Senior projects for safety, ethics, and rule compliance
prior to experimentation, as required by Society for Science / ISEF rules. Receiving SRC approval (green or purple dot)
does NOT automatically register a project for the Regional Fair.
3. Students Must Be Connected to Their Teacher
If a teacher cannot see a student’s project, they cannot promote it.
Students must invite their teacher within the system so the project can move forward in the registration process.
4. Not All Forms Apply to All Divisions
Elementary, Junior, and Senior divisions each have different requirements.
Elementary projects do NOT require SRC approval or the same compliance forms required for upper divisions.
5. Homeschool Participation
Homeschool students participate through an established homeschool co-op account.
Individual homeschool registrations are not set up as separate schools within the system.
6. The Promotion Step Exists for a Reason
The promotion step:
• Confirms which projects are advancing beyond local use
• Ensures compliance with ISEF rules
• Allows accurate tracking of projects attending on Fair Day
Not all projects entered into the system are intended to compete at the Region 1 Fair.
7. Revisions Are Allowed
Forms and abstracts may be revised when requested
by the SRC prior to the final documentation deadline.
Students are NOT penalized for making corrections
when guidance is provided.
The South Carolina Region 1
Science Fair follows all ISEF Rules.

Thank you for visiting Southern Wesleyan University!
We appreciate the patience of students, teachers, homeschool families,
and coordinators during this platform transition year. Our goal is continuous improvement
and clear communication as we grow the SC Region 1 Science Fair.
We look forward to an even smoother process in 2027.
